HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS?
If you own a home your gutters heroically guard against threats like mold growth or foundation damage, you definitely have questions about how frequently you should clean your gutters to maintain their lifespan.
Six times a year, including at least three in the fall, are ideal amount to clean your gutters. The appropriate number of cleanings, as well as your general strategy for gutter protection services, are influenced by location and weather.
LOCATION
Remember that gutters are designed to direct trash and other potentially hazardous substances away from your house. Gutter cleaning is more likely to be on the minds of homeowners in areas that are more vulnerable to natural events. However, every location may present unique challenges.
For example, a Greenville home that is surrounded by trees may get a cleaning more frequently during the year, while a Simpsonville home that isn’t around many trees may get a cleaning in the fall when the leaves begin to fall.
While seasonality is the main factor in determining how frequently you need to clean your gutters, you need also take into account your location because these are all valid reasons.
SEASONALITY
End of Winter Gutter Cleaning (Feb – April)
It's important to keep in mind that cleaning your gutters is still a good idea even if it hasn't rained or been windy. Late-clinging leaves and branches, or leftover winter debris, can form at the end of winter and flow into your gutters when the ice melts. As winter draws to a close, it is recommended that you clean your gutters at least once.
Spring Gutter Cleaning (May – July)
The fresh, new, and ripe season of the year is spring. Additionally, pollen, stray leaves, and other possible floaters may be present throughout the spring. These can easily get stuck in your gutter and cause blockages.
Once near the end of spring it is recommended you get a gutter cleaning.
Summer Gutter Cleaning (August – September)
Violent gusts that rip leaves off the trees and slam them against your roof and gutters accompany severe storms during this season.
It may seem counterintuitive to inspect your gutters throughout the summer because the season might offer drought-like conditions. To prevent your home from being overwhelmed by rain, make sure they are free of debris.
Cleaning your gutters somewhere around Labor Day, which is the first Monday in September, is advised.
Fall Gutter Cleaning (October – November)
Fall is the season when the changing colors of the leaves are admired. The enjoyment is often short since as soon as the leaves turn, they are quickly shed from the tree and sent blowing in the wind.
The most important season to clean your gutters is fall. The rate at which trees are losing their leaves can trick you, even if it may seem excessive, until you find yourself up in the gutters pulling caked leaves out of your gutter.
It is recommended that you clean your gutters at least three times during fall.
