WHY PRESSURE WASHING ISN’T A SUITABLE DIY PROJECT FOR UPSTATE HOMEOWNERS

Pressure washing diy

You know you need pressure washing, and you have two options: hire a professional or spend your weekend attempting to do it yourself. It's commendable that you want to put some sweat equity and elbow grease into your home, but this isn't the right profession for you.

Taking care of your power washing, contrary to popular belief, is not the greatest option. Although big-box home improvement retailers would have you believe otherwise in order to sell or rent you the equipment, we'd like to clear the air.

Leave the Work to the experts.

There's no shame in hiring a pro to handle a job that's best left to qualified and experienced professionals. If you're still not convinced, consider the following:

  1. For starters, you're working with a high-pressure, concentrated spray that may literally scrape old paint off a surface. (It has 50 times the power of a garden hose!) It's not the type of task you should take on as a beginner without some kind of instruction and enough of supervised practice. It's not unusual to sustain personal injury or damage property, but that's not something you hear about when you're shopping for power washers.
  2. Did we say it wasn't safe? - You'll also have to navigate slick terrain, including ascending a ladder. Even industry professionals can fall, but if you've never walked on slick concrete, decking, or driveways before, you're at a considerably higher danger of falling.
  3. You’re not going to get professional results - If you manage to make it through your first DIY pressure washing session without injuring your skin, eyes or taking a tumble off a damp ladder, congratulations. You might even avoid scratching surfaces, which is a plus. However, you are unlikely to be pleased with the results of your efforts. Beginners often end up with streaks, missed regions, and overlooked nooks and crannies.
  4. It doesn't save that much money - When you consider the cost of the equipment and your time, hiring an expert isn't that much more cost-effective. Spend the extra money and hire a professional power washer to complete the work for you.
